NH Senate Republicans deliver the results Granite Staters want

Today’s Union Leader features an op-ed by Senate Majority leader Chuck Morse in which he lays out how Republicans in the Senate have delivered the results Granite Staters want. Be wary of empty promises made by Democrats who have to steal from Peter to pay for Paul!

"Senate Democrats can outline all the free handouts they want that sound great for their campaign clips and literature, but the Republican majorities have delivered the results Granite Staters have been looking for. A Republican Senate will live within our means, continue to make New Hampshire more attractive for businesses, attract higher paying jobs, and will always protect taxpayers. The difference is clear.

Republicans have delivered on our promises and will continue to make New Hampshire the best place to live, work and raise a family."

Great weekend of outreach

Busy weekend meeting voters! So busy, I forgot to take any pics, except the featured one from Saturday morning before we headed out to go door knocking in West Manchester.

Our team of volunteers met at 9:30AM to get situated and finalize our lists before breaking into smaller groups to head into different areas of Ward 10.

We spent the next few hours dropping lit and chatting to folks on their doorsteps or outside where they were gardening and doing yard work. Great to connect!

We then reconvened for a delicious lunch of gazpacho, salad, salmon, and zucchini. LOVE peak season, and thank you, thank you, thank you to all the volunteers and the chef!

On Sunday morning, I fielded yard sign requests, then Louis and I headed out to drop off some before running our weekly household errands–which this week included picking up a blueberry pie and apple cider donuts at Golden Harvest Farm Stall for the evening’s festivities.

Later, I attended a "Meet Your GOP Candidates" event at the Parks & Rec building in Goffstown. Instead of a typical "speechifying" candidate event, this one was a dessert social/mixer, and it was relaxing and informative to talk to people one-on-one, or in small groups–so much better and meaningful!

Thanks to the Goffstown Republican Committee for organizing and hosting. I really enjoyed meeting and talking in depth to Goffstown voters. Thank you for coming out!

It’s rewarding to learn that you are also passionate about issues I care about: lower taxes, school choice, gun rights, to name a few. (And gardening! Got a few excellent tips for our nascent garden, thanks!)

I did consistently hear one sentiment: "It’s time for Lou to go!", "Twenty years in the senate is l-o-n-g enough!", and, "It is time for change."

With Carla Gericke in the NH Senate, you can expect:

  1. A stronger economy and more jobs
  2. No sales or income tax, and vigilance regarding proposed "feel good" legislation that will lead us there
  3. Lower spending and a balanced budget
  4. Protection of your property rights
  5. Government accountability and transparency

As your senator, you will always know where I stand because as a principled advocate for limited, Constitutional government, and as someone who is not beholden to special interests, I can only stand for YOU. I ask for your vote this election!

Remember, the primaries are coming up on September 11th. While I don’t have a primary, be sure to get out and vote!

A candidate to make you smile

A couple of weeks ago, I sat down with a constituent from Ward 11 in my Senate District (20, which is Goffstown, and Manchester Wards 3, 4, 10 & 11). This wonderful Letter to the Editor in today’s Union Leader was the result! Thank you, Jennifer, for asking to meet!

"When was the last time you talked politics and found yourself smiling? Well, one look at Carla Gericke’s smile, and you will be! Carla is a wise woman who understands that attitude in life is everything, and her outlook is positive. She realizes power lies where you put your focus, and Carla’s focus is on the betterment of New Hampshire."

"I asked Carla to grab a cup of coffee today, and over our joe, we discussed her love for New Hampshire and what she stands for: limited Constitutional government, peace, preserving the New Hampshire Advantage, lower taxes, and fewer regulations."

Town Square YUUUUGE Success

On Tuesday, candidates and supporters gathered at Manchester City Hall for our first Town Square: Come hear ye, hear ye! The goal of these recurring monthly events is:

"Candidates, bring your 5 minute stump speeches! Voters, bring your questions! Let’s have some fun while we respectfully discuss issues important to us in our communities. Hope to see YOU there! Be there, or be, well, not at the Town Square! :P"

Two Republican candidates from Ward 3 joined the fun, each also giving a short introductory speech. I hope next time even more candidates–of all persuasions–show up. Let’s bring some human interaction to the race!

Positions

The best way to serve the greater good is, above all, to protect the smallest minority, the individual… YOU.

It’s the economy, stupid*

*You are not stupid, but boy, the laws coming out of the legislature often are. The best way to stimulate the economy and to create jobs is for government to get out of the way. Lower taxes, freer markets, less regulation, and the right to work all lead to more prosperity.

Criminal justice reform

The War on Drugs is an abject failure, wasting trillions in taxpayers’ dollars and resulting in the militarization of the police–yes, even here in NH! Just as alcohol prohibition did not work, it is time for new thinking on drug policy and criminal justice. Less incarceration, no policing for profit, more compassion through harm reduction policies, safer streets and neighborhoods. Let’s end the overcriminalization of ourselves!

YOU choose

Whatever floats YOUR boat–education, school choice, parental rights, localism, gun rights, cryptocurrencies, the environment, free speech–the government should simply protect your constitutional rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. We should be repealing laws left, right and center, and not passing so many new ones. Smaller, limited, constitutional government FTW!

See-through governance

You have the right to know exactly what your representatives are up to. Government should be transparent and accountable to you. As your senator, I will disclose every vote I take, regardless of whether a roll call vote was recorded. As a member of Right-to-Know NH, I will also work to strengthen laws that expand government transparency, and reduce all those sneaky loopholes!

States’ rights

Everyone seems grumpy about the current political climate. Are you? If so, I want you to know there is a very simple solution to many of your frustrations. Adhering to states’ rights, and nullifying overreaching Federal laws. As your senator, I will focus on localized control, and always put New Hampshire and Granite Staters first.

Persuasion, not force

Every single law is backed by the barrel of a gun. Government is force–don’t take my word for it, see what this fancy Yale law professor has to say–so the smaller the government, the more peaceful life is. Instead of using the state to pass laws about your pet projects, embrace the power of persuasion and pursue your passions privately. Rather than pushing new laws on everyone, use tools like social media to further your cause on a voluntary basis. If it’s a great idea, people will adopt it. If it isn’t, why force everyone else to comply with your will?

Pro-life

Many voters have called and asked about my position on abortion. I am personally pro-life; however I would not vote to criminalize what I believe is a difficult and personal decision. I do not support any taxpayer funding of abortions.

Pro-life to me also means I am antiwar (but pro-veteran!) and against the death penalty.
